The city of Maricopa is organizing a co-ed softball tournament to benefit the Cano family, whose home was destroyed by a fire the week of Thanksgiving.

“This is a great family who was stuck by a tragic event,” said city of Maricopa adult sports director Monica Rubio. “We want to do our part as a city to step up and help out.”

The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 11 and will be hosted at Pacana Park, 19000 N. Porter Rd. The entry fee for the tournament is $175 per team.

In addition to the daylong softball tournament, Rubio said she plans to have a DJ, food and a raffle on the day of the event.

“This is going to be a great, fun way to help this family,” she said.

All money raised will be given directly to the Cano family.
