A woman was accused April 3 of driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle in a car seat, according to Maricopa officers.

Alicia R. Gurrola was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (slightest degree), (above .08 blood-alcohol concentration), extreme DUI (above .15 BAC), aggravated DUI with a child under 15 years old in the vehicle, and endangerment, police said.

At 11:45 p.m., police were called to the area of West Smith-Enke Road and North John Wayne Parkway on a report of an erratic driver. The reporting party stated it was his fiancée who was driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle.

According to a probable-cause statement, officers found the vehicle matching the reporting party’s description travelling west on West Smith-Enke Road. Police pulled up behind the vehicle, which   quickly turned into a parking lot near Starbucks, at 21423 N. John Wayne Parkway.

Officers contacted Gurrola in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle and saw a child in a car seat in the back.  Police noted the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Gurrola, speech slurred and thickened, and poor balance when speaking with officers, they said. Officers added that Gurrola performed poorly on a field sobriety test.

Gurrola told officers she had been drinking vodka earlier in the day, police said.

She was booked into Pinal County jail, according to MPD.
