Jaywalking stop on John Wayne Parkway ends in felony arrest

A man accused of assaulting a homeowner while working as an Amazon delivery driver on the East Coast was arrested Monday in Maricopa after police say a simple jaywalking stop near a Circle K revealed he was wanted on a felony warrant.

According to a Pinal County Superior Court release questionnaire, Maricopa officers contacted Brian Lamar George-Lawrence, 28, at about 10:40 p.m. last night after they saw him cross John Wayne Parkway illegally near Bowlin Road.

When they ran his information, officers learned he was wanted in a Pinal County case accusing him of failing to return rented property. The felony charge was filed Nov. 5, 2024, but the indictment is sealed, so the public record does not describe what he is alleged to have taken or failed to return.

George-Lawrence had been ordered to appear in Early Disposition Court on Feb. 18 before Judge Kelly Neal III. The court appointed Deputy Public Defender Alixis Russell-Strahm to represent him. He did not show up. The judge issued a felony arrest warrant that day with a $1,000 secured bond.

Police arrested George-Lawrence at about 11:30 p.m. yesterday, reporting he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Pinal County jail, where he remains in custody according to the booking paperwork.

George-Lawrence also faces charges in Connecticut from a November 2023 incident while he was delivering for Amazon. According to New England media, a homeowner told police he pulled into his driveway and saw George-Lawrence backing the Amazon truck toward his vehicle. The homeowner said he threw his car into reverse to avoid being hit and struck a pole on his property. He told officers the two argued, that George-Lawrence pushed him and that the truck’s mirror hit him as the driver fled. When officers later found the Amazon truck, they said George-Lawrence approached them yelling and waving his arms before being detained. He was charged with breach of peace and assault.
