The home of 31 flavors is eager to call Maricopa home — again.
In fact, Baskin-Robbins is so excited, it’s looking to begin serving scoops of Pralines ‘n Cream and Cherries Jubilee before the triple-digit temps arrive, according to the local franchisee Dana Rakvica.
He said today that contractors began construction in December and the current plan is to open by early May.
This officially marks Canton, Mass.-based Baskin-Robbins’ resurgence to the Maricopa market since the original Maricopa Fiesta location shuttered in 2013. In December, city officials gave the ice cream shop the green light to begin interior construction.
So, why bring the iconic ice cream brand back to the city?
“Maricopa has had a huge population growth over the last 10 years, so we identified it as one of our top market areas,” Rakvica told InMaricopa. “We have a lot of high hopes for this store. Until recently, there haven’t been too many ice cream shops in town, so we’re excited to be a part of it.”
While its soft and grand openings are still at least a couple of months away, Rakvica said he and his team are already scooping up some ideas based on previous openings.
“Usually, we have a DJ, and the mascot Coney shows up,” he said. “We’ll have giveaways and usually we do $1 cones for that day.”
