A quintessentially Arizonan donut shop is moving forward with construction, according to city documents obtained by InMaricopa today.

Construction is moving forward at BoSa Donuts where an electrical crew completed work last week. The no-frills donut shop joins Banner Physical Therapy and Cold Stone Creamery in a retail pad on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Porter Road.

Chandler-based BoSa submitted paperwork for tenant improvements in September, which includes constructing interior walls, plumbing and electrical work.

Construction plans show the restaurant has a dining area for 24 patrons and a drive-thru window for to-go orders.

The donut shop is known for its low-key atmosphere and classic menu, with many locations open around-the-clock. However, it’s not likely the Maricopa location will be open that late, according to founder Jackson Chao.

“We will most likely be open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.,” he told InMaricopa last year. “If it turns out to be really busy, we might go to 24 hours, but that depends on the location.

With 16 locations in the state including Sun Lakes and Casa Grande, BoSa is the best donut shop in Arizona, according to PureWow’s list of best doughnut shops in America.

The Arizona Republic named BoSa among its top 10 donuts in metro Phoenix.

BoSa’s true-to-type menu is perhaps best known for its dense and fluted glazed buttermilk bars, stuffed apple fritters and fancy butterfly rolls. The restaurant also serves breakfast sandwiches, an array of coffee drinks, fruit teas and boba milk teas.

The Maricopa location will compete with locally-owned Good Donuts and the national chain Dunkin’ on John Wayne Parkway.
