Halloween in Maricopa has brought scary driving.
Three separate reported crashes in the span of minutes brought traffic to a crawl across Maricopa during peak rush-hour traffic this afternoon.
The first occurred before 4:30 p.m. on Honeycutt Road, east of White and Parker Road, where a black Mercedes-Benz SUV and a silver pickup truck collided head-on. Police said the crash began as a rear-end collision that pushed one vehicle into oncoming traffic. Both vehicles had major front-end damage, and one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution after walking to the ambulance under their own power.
Reader-submitted footage showed police blocking the roadway as a tow truck removed the SUV, while cars and school buses used the dirt shoulder to get through.

Around the same time, another collision involving three vehicles blocked the southbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road. Maricopa Police said a driver ran a red light, sparking the rush-hour wreck.
A dark-colored SUV was seen smoking in the intersection after colliding with a white pickup with airbags deployed. Police and firefighters converged on the scene, blocking westbound Smith-Enke and the northbound left-turn lane on John Wayne Parkway. No injuries were reported.

At 4:51 p.m., emergency crews responded to Porter Road and Shea Way near Walmart for what was initially reported as a struck motorcyclist but later confirmed to be a medical call related to a minibike injury. Earlier this week, Senita resident Bori Vega was seriously injured in a separate minibike crash on John Wayne Parkway.

Police cleared the Honeycutt scene shortly before 5 p.m., but congestion continued citywide as Valley commuters returned home. The John Wayne Parkway scene was cleared at 5:20 p.m. First responders were departing the Porter Road scene at 5:10 p.m.
October is the crash-iest time of year in Maricopa, according to Transportation Department data.
