Harbor Freight nails down Maricopa store, for real this time

Rumors of another home improvement store throwing its hard, yellow hat in the ring to compete with ACE Hardware, Home Depot and Lowe’s are no longer just rumors.

Harbor Freight Tools today confirmed a new location is coming to Maricopa in place of the former 99 Cents Only Store on Edison Road at John Wayne Parkway.

The Calabasas, Calif.-based company sells power tools, generators, jacks and plenty more at under-market prices. It is estimated to open in December.

The rumors came early

A Facebook user using the name Armo Lite announced Harbor Freight would take over the former Maricopa discount store June 14.

The post quickly gained hundreds of reactions and comments along with an unofficial confirmation from Santa Rosa Crossing resident Amber Miller.

“True news,” she wrote in the Maricopa AZ 85138 group. “My husband will be running the store. It was announced a few weeks ago.”

At the time, Miller mused the store would open as soon as October.

However, Harbor Freight spokesperson Donna Walker had a more tempered response at that time.

“I can’t confirm anything right now, but we are looking in the area,” she then told InMaricopa.

Walker could not immediately be reached for comment today.
