Maricopa was named one of the “best up-and-coming small cities” in an analysis by HGTV of U.S. Census Bureau and nonpartisan economic reports.
HGTV, the basic cable channel of House Hunters repute, recently published its list of the top 30 up-and-coming cities in America, with Maricopa landing in the middle of the pack.
Coming in at No. 16 on the list, Maricopa was named for its affordable housing and proximity to outdoor recreation.
“Maricopa doesn’t have the hustle and bustle of Phoenix, but it does offer safe vibes, sun-splashed scenery and plenty to do in this small town … Many come and stay for the small-town feel and affordable housing market,” the report claims.
The report also references the nearby Dwarf Car Museum in Hidden Valley and golfing, like The Duke at Rancho El Dorado Golf Club.
HGTV examined various factors such as healthcare, proximity to jobs, income, outdoor recreation and affordable housing. It leveraged census data and the Milken Institute‘s report on the best-performing cities nationwide to create its list.
Queen Creek was the top Arizona city at No. 2 on the list, followed by Buckeye at No. 3. Both are top-growing cities in the Phoenix metro that are building new homes. Goodyear ranked 15th and edged out Maricopa. Analysts cited recreation and its 10% growth in recent years as key contributors.
