Maricopa police today identified the man who drowned and died in a backyard pool in Rancho El Dorado Saturday afternoon.

“The man who drowned on Saturday has been identified as 47-year-old Macario Pablo Mendoza,” public safety spokesperson Monica Williams told InMaricopa today.

Williams said the identification was trickier than usual because he did not “appear to be a U.S. resident.”

Mendoza, a landscaper working at a house at the 42300 block of Chisholm Drive in Rancho El Dorado, drowned in a backyard pool at about 4:30 p.m.

Fire and medical crews responded to the home and transported Mendoza to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police do not suspect foul play.
