Ono Hawaiian BBQ on the menu for Sonoran Creek Marketplace

It looks like Filiberto’s may not be headed to Sonoran Creek Marketplace after all.

The long-empty Suite 130 had been slated for sizzling Styrofoam platters of carne asada fries and paper-wrapped California burritos since at least 2020, but the city’s What’s New Maricopa site shows there’s been a new development.

California-based Ono Hawaiian BBQ is now listed as an under construction commercial project at 20320 N. John Wayne Parkway, the same building that currently houses Jimmy John’s, Crumbl Cookies and MOD Pizza.

Filiberto’s initially submitted a site plan in November 2021, but the document expired in July 2023. That means the suite has been up for grabs for a while.

A peek inside the suite yesterday, however, showed no progress. It remains empty with dusty floors and exposed insulation in the walls.

Additionally, public records for city permits do not show documentation for any commercial tenant improvement permits, typical indicators of a business in the works.

InMaricopa contacted the city yesterday with further questions and is awaiting a response.

If the fast-casual Hawaiian restaurant is built, it would be Ono’s 23rd location in Arizona. The most recent location opened in December at 67th Avenue and McDowell Road.
