As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, the Arizona Department of Transportation urges drivers to prioritize safety, exercise patience and remain vigilant on the roads.

ADOT and its contractors have suspended any full highway closures from Friday to Wednesday, July 5.

But drivers should still allow extra travel time and anticipate lane restrictions in some existing work zones, such as southbound I-17 south of Flagstaff.

With an influx of road-tripping travelers, motorists should buckle up, obey speed limits and never drive impaired.

ADOT also suggests checking tire pressure, getting some rest before hitting the road and stocking an emergency kit with blankets, first aid kit, chargers and snacks.

Distractions, such as texting while driving, should be avoided. And steer clear of grass and brush to prevent a fire hazard.
