After more than a month, Maricopa’s Planning and Zoning Commission is finally meeting to discuss development in the city.
This week’s agenda is a short one — featuring only two items — but here’s a peek at you may find.
More development on MCG
Surprise! A second O’Reilly Auto Parts is coming to Maricopa and this time, it is looking to set up shop away from the city’s main drag.
Developers plan to construct the building on the northwest corner of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Shea Way, just south of Tractor Supply. The 7,700 square foot auto parts retailer would employ up to 20 people.
The item is up for presentation and discussion only, meaning commissioners will not vote on it.
Commercial rezoning on Bowlin Road
Maricopa Chief Strategy Officer Rick Horst teased this rezoning earlier this year during a Maricopa Chamber of Commerce presentation, but it looks like plans for a commercial center between Rancho Mirage and Sorrento are in the works.
The 15-acre parcel will sit at the southwest corner of Bowlin and Hartman Roads, and could be home to “retail stores, small grocery and drug stores, specialty food sales and services, restaurants and cafes, fuel stations and convenience stores,” according to the project narrative.
The rezone would change the plot from local business to neighborhood commercial, a move that would allow for smaller stores that can meet the daily needs of nearby residents.
Planning staff have recommended the commission discuss and approve the rezoning request, so it can be approved by city council in a future meeting.
