An 83-year-old Maricopa woman was arrested Sunday after police said a dispute with her husband turned violent. It is the second time this year she has faced domestic violence charges.
Officers were called about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to a home in the Province neighborhood, where they found the 76-year-old man with bloody wrists, according to court records. He told officers his wife, Nancy Jean Slama, repeatedly struck him, kicked him and hurled objects at him as he tried to leave for a medical appointment.
Slama admitted to slapping her husband but said he grabbed her arms during the altercation. She told police the argument escalated because her husband was spending time with “his new girlfriend across the street” and sometimes brought the woman to their home. Officers noted bruising on Slama’s arms but no other visible injuries.
The alleged victim declined medical treatment despite bloody forearms.
Police arrested Slama on suspicion of misdemeanor assault related to domestic violence. She was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility.
It marked the second time in 2025 that Slama has been accused of attacking her husband. In February, the then-82-year-old was arrested after police said she struck her husband several times with a flowerpot during an argument over the television. Court records show she faced two domestic violence charges in that case. Her husband told police that nothing came of those charges; Maricopa Municipal Court records show a prosecutor asked a judge to drop them just last month.
Facing six months behind bars, Slama will be arraigned again on new domestic violence charges Sept. 30.
