Police confirmed this afternoon a teen shot in the Maricopa Meadows last night has died.
Officers found a 16-year-old boy injured with a gunshot wound on the 45000 block of West Dirk Street just before 7:15 p.m. yesterday, said the department spokesperson Monica Williams.
The teen was transported to a Valley hospital where he died.
Police set up a perimeter with crime scene tape on Dancer Lane, between Dirk Street and Guilder Avenue. Detectives continued to scan the scene early this morning, according to reporters on the scene.
The officers placed evidence markers next to an article of clothing, vape boxes, a spilled styrofoam cup and lid.
Williams said police have “no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the community,” but the homicide remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to contact the police department’s non-emergency line at 520-568-3673.
