‘Terrible’ Nevada gas station bets on Maricopa

Here’s hoping a company’s plans to expand into Maricopa aren’t as sarcastic as its name.

Paradise, Nev.-based Terrible’s offers “a deliberately different gas station experience,” and it wants to hit the jackpot with a new location in Maricopa, according to documents obtained today in a public records request.

A project narrative submitted to the city’s planning department detailed a 5,500-square-foot convenience store with ten double-sided fuel pumps and a carwash on the southeast corner of Porter and Bowlin Roads.

If built, it would be the first Terrible’s location in central Arizona. The gas station currently operates a handful of locations in western Arizona cities, like Kingman, Quartzsite and Bullhead City.

Terrible’s is famous for owning the largest Chevron station in the world, a 50,000-square-foot convenience store in Jean, Nev., that features a supersized beer cave, 72 soda heads and several boutiques decorated with everything from giant Bigfoot statues to James Bond’s Lotus Esprit.

A representative from Terrible’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the Maricopa expansion.

At least three gas stations have been proposed in recent months for locations around Maricopa, including a Circle K on the southwest corner of Smith-Enke and Porter Roads.
