This might be the last winter before Ahwatukee-based Zzeek’s Pizza starts offering its signature 50% snowbird discounts to seasonal Maricopa seniors.
The Maricopa Planning & Zoning Commission last night unanimously approved two requests to construct the future pizza parlor at Honeycutt and Whisker Roads, marking the way for the city’s first restaurant east of Porter Road.
The requests asked to rezone 2.93 acres and to approve a development review permit from Phoenix architecture firm Soaring Eight.
Zzeek’s will take up a little more than half of the space of the 7,600-square-foot building, which will include a patio for outdoor dining. A tenant for the neighboring suite has not been announced, but a project narrative suggested it could be used for “medical and/or office tenants.”
News of Maricopa’s 11th pizza joint arrived in April when Zzeek’s submitted pre-application paperwork. In December, the restaurant submitted preliminary plans showing off the building’s layout and color elevations.
Zzeek’s Pizza opened its first restaurant in Ahwatukee in 2013 and received accolades for best pizza multiple times from the East Valley Tribune and Ahwatukee Foothills News. The pizzeria is known for its wings, hand-tossed Brooklyn-style crusts, keto-friendly and gluten-free pizza options.
