5th annual Seeds of Change Gala ‘Going Wild’

Area residents will be “Going Wild” at the 5th Annual Against Abuse, Inc. Seeds of Change Gala on Saturday, April 10, at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Events Center.

Proceeds from the tickets, which are $75 per person, silent and live auction items and the raffle will go toward the establishment of the Maricopa women and children’s shelter. Each $75 provides one night’s shelter for a mother and her children. Tickets are available online at www.seedsofchangegala.org or by calling 520-560-3665.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, featuring music by “The Eleventh Hour Band,” and a chance for guests to bid on the approximately 35 silent auction items on display.  A special Polynesian-style dinner menu will be served at 7 p.m. with dancing beginning at 8 p.m. to the sounds of “Redwood.”

Five items will be up for bid with auctioneer Keith Stump, and credit cards will be accepted for all items. The live auction items include a handmade, queen-sized quilt crafted by the Sisterhood of the Traveling Quilts, Maricopa’s quilt guild. Troy Anderson’s personally designed and handmade redwood deck chairs will also be auctioned off, as well as a chair from the La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and Phoenix Suns tickets donated by Maricopa Women in Business and KUPD.

Poco Loco’s Sonja Templeton has again created a custom, one-of-a-kind, signed and dated eight-place setting dinnerware set, complete with matching wine bucket, glasses and table décor. With all the firings, glazing and painting, which were done in several steps, Templeton put 100 plus hours into the set. “Each year since we began Sonja has made a different design just for the Gala, but this will be the last year for her creations,” explained Torri Anderson, who heads the Gala committee of 15 Maricopa women.

This year’s raffle item is a pair of diamond, interchangeable earrings (.80 carat total) donated by Amy’s Jewelry Boutique in Casa Grande (see photo at right).  Raffle tickets are $10 each, and purchasers do not need to be present to win; they will be available at the Gala and presold by committee members.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we were able to raise over $30,000 at last year’s Gala. It is our hope you will join us again this year as we continue our quest to build a much needed shelter facility in the city of Maricopa,” said Anderson.

“This event is all about Maricopa; it’s for Maricopa and by Maricopa,” said Anderson. “We are so grateful to the local businesses and individuals who have continued to support us.”
