Pima Butte Elementary School received a $1,000 check from Treasured Smiles Children’s Dentistry for collecting 2,017 pounds of food in November.

The school has 395 students making it a total of 5.11 pounds of food per student collected for the F.O.R. Maricopa food bank.

“In this economy it’s great to see kids giving so much to the food bank,” Dr. Duane C. Clouse said. “I was very impressed. This was the most successful year so far.”

Clouse said he and his staff at Treasured Smiles Children’s dentistry enjoy spearheading this campaign.

“This is something that we can do to make a difference in the community,” he said.

Last year Maricopa Elementary School won by collecting 4.32 pounds per student. This year, schools in the Maricopa Unified School District collected 7,041 pounds of food from Nov. 1 through Nov. 16.

This was the fourth year of sponsoring the food drive. Each year Clouse and his staff have donated $1,000 to the public elementary school collecting the most pounds of food per student as part of the Feed Our Families food drive.

Along with the $1,000 check, Clouse gave Pima Butte Principal Korrin Ledbetter an Above and Beyond Award that praised the school for its achievement.
