Katie Self is a student at Arizona State University but already has lot of working experience from her time in Chicago and making a mark in the journalism world.
Hometown: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Resides in: Acacia Crossings
Occupation: Full-time journalism student at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School
Family: My parents, sister, and brother-in-law live in Maricopa while my brother lives in Milwaukee with his family. I’m the youngest sibling by 12 years. I have two nephews who are 19 and 13, and a niece who is 8 going on 30.
Pets: Buster, a munchkin cat I rescued. He has tiny legs with a big personality!
Cars: The most fuel-efficient car I could get for all my driving to and from Maricopa – a Toyota Prius
Hobbies: Traveling, cooking, playing volleyball, watching NFL football (Go Pack!), reading non-school books, searching for the best restaurants in Phoenix
My background: Originally from the Midwest, I’ve collectively lived in Phoenix for 11 years. I spent the better part of a decade living in downtown Chicago and fell in love with the city. However, I decided to quit my job at an international architecture firm to return to school and receive my degree in journalism so I could enter a creative profession.
Why I write: I love to be able to entertain as well as inform, and my thoughts just sound better on paper!
Why Maricopa: I’m currently living in Maricopa while I finish school, and have come to love the close-knit community feeling.
