The Ak-Chin Industrial Park Board announced the Ak-Chin Regional Airport (formerly Phoenix Regional Airport) will be closed via an FAA NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for approximately two weeks beginning about Aug. 24 for final resurfacing of the runway and taxiway.

The resurfacing work includes crack repairs, re-sealing, repainting thresholds, runway numbering, taxiway striping and is part of the planned $1 million renovations.

The work being performed by AJP Electric and Pioneer Builders, under the supervision of Armstrong Consultants, has proceeded on schedule since it starts June 25 and is expected to continue through September with grading of safety areas and renovation of the fixed-based operations building in preparation for an airport grand opening in mid-October.

Ak-Chin Regional Airport was purchased by the Community in 2006 and encompasses approximately 450 acres. The Ak-Chin Industrial Park Board has been actively planning and overseeing engineering improvements to what they see as an economic generator for the Community as well as the surrounding area.

Located in Pinal County, between the cities of Maricopa and Casa Grande, with close proximity to Phoenix and Tucson, the airport is within five minutes of Ak-Chin’s Santa Cruz Commerce Center.
