Assault Arrest

A Maricopa woman was arrested June 30 after allegedly assaulting a woman in a car and threatening her with a handgun, according to Maricopa police.

An MPD probable-cause statement detailed the incident:

At 3:34 p.m., Maricopa police responded to a home on West Dutchman Drive in Maricopa Meadows. The alleged victim said she was hit by Ashley M. Huff and Huff had a gun, then hung up the phone. During the call, dispatchers reported hearing the alleged victim and Huff, 31, screaming at each other before the phone disconnected. The victim reportedly said, “Do it.”

When officers arrived, the alleged victim ran out of the house toward them. She had a swollen and bloody lip.

The alleged victim said Huff was sitting near the community mailboxes. Police found Huff there and placed her in handcuffs.

Police found a firearm in one of Huff’s bags. In another bag, officers found methamphetamine and a meth pipe.

The alleged victim told officers she and Huff had been arguing all day and Huff had assaulted her during a car ride. The alleged victim said she left Huff and went home, where Huff appeared armed with a handgun. She said Huff entered the home and pointed the handgun at her.

Huff admitted to an argument and pointing the firearm at the alleged victim, police said. Huff said the alleged victim threatened to destroy her deceased family urns.

Police received camera footage showing Huff banging on the home’s front door while holding a firearm.

Arizona defines domestic violence relationships as between a victim and defendant who reside or have resided in the same household.

Huff was booked into Pinal County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic violence), possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a deadly weapon and dangerous drugs, disorderly conduct with a weapon (domestic violence) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
