Summer is over, and school is back in session for Maricopa youth. On Aug. 22. AmTrust bank will be hosting a Back-to-School Safety demonstration for children and their parents.

Branch Manager David Rosenau said, “Well, it began as a coloring contest and just ballooned out from there!” The contest is based on the question, “What does summer mean to you?” Coloring pages can be picked up at the bank and completed with crayons, markers or colored pencils.

Children in the community have the opportunity to win a $50 savings bond or a backpack filled with school supplies. A first and second place winner will be chosen from the following age groups: kindergarten to second grade, third and fourth grades, as well as fifth and sixth grades. “We will display all the drawings inside the bank. All entries must be submitted by Aug. 21,” said Rosenau.

“You don’t have to be a member of the bank to participate. We have the supplies here; you only have to come in. Coloring contests are something fun they used to do when I was a kid; this is a small town, so I thought it would work out well,” Rosenau said.

In addition to the announcement of the coloring contest winners on Aug. 22, there will be demonstrations by the Maricopa Police and Fire Departments.

Rosenau said, “We will have MPD here for child fingerprinting and the K-9 officers. The Maricopa Fire Department will be here, too, holding a fire safety demonstration and with a fire truck for the kids to check out.”

Refreshments and snacks will also be available.
