Working as a voice-over artist for the past 10 years, including nationally in Subway radio commercials, Hidden Valley resident Curtis Chamberlain has plenty of experience with the spoken word.

Now his first venture into the written word may also prove to be a fruitful endeavor.

Chamberlain’s first book, “The Judas Epidemic: Exposing the Betrayal of the Christian Faith in Church and Government,” is expected to be released in mid January.

Chamberlain is self-publishing the book through WestBow Press, a division of Thomas Nelson, one of the world’s largest publishers of Christian books. The cover was designed by local graphic designer Carrie Ring.

Chamberlain is a member of Faith Baptist Church in Maricopa, where he directs music and teaches a newcomers’ class.

The book is a commentary about the Gospel, he said. “It is also instructional and a partial rebuke of false teachings taught in many Christian churches.”

Chamberlain said partly because of the New Age spirituality base, people have been taught there are many ways to get to heaven.

“But there is only one way and that is faith and trust in Jesus Christ,” Chamberlain said. “Churches are teaching you can believe what you want to and still get to heaven. Also, there is a works-based theology that you can be strictly a good person and be saved, but that is incorrect.”

Chamberlain said “The Judas Epidemic” is his first book, but he plans to write a dozen more.

“I have another book in the works right now addressing Hinduism and Buddhism,” he said.

Originally from Peoria, Ill., Chamberlain said his father was a preacher and he grew up in the church.
