Baskin-Robbins, firefighters team up for ice cream fundraiser tonight

Baskin-Robbins is cutting the price of a scoop of ice cream to 31 cents this evening as part of a fundraiser for firefighter charities.

The Maricopa Baskin-Robbins store, located south of Bashas’ in the Maricopa Fiesta shopping center, will be offering the reduced price from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight.

Carlos Schulz, vice president of Professional Fire Fighters of Maricopa Local 4561, said several members of the Maricopa Fire Department would be on hand to help scoop ice cream.

“We’ll have two different fire trucks rotate through there, so the kids that come out will be able to see a fire truck, hopefully if they’re not on call,” Schulz said.

Schulz said customers can also make donations toward the union’s firefighter relief fund. “It’s a fund that if someone gets injured or a family member or a firefighter passes away, we donate money to them to help them offset costs. It’s a way to give back to our own,” he said.

As part of the nationwide event, Baskin-Robbins is also donating $100,000 to the National Volunteer Fire Council’s National Junior Firefighter Program.

“It’s their way of giving back to the firefighters and the community,” Schulz said. “It’s just awesome to have corporate support on such an important program.”
