Local Scouts perform flag ceremony at Legislature

Maricopa Boy Scout Troop No. 993, chartered by the Maricopa Veterans Center – VFW Post No. 12043 and American Legion Post No. 133 – was selected by Grand Canyon Council to represent the Boy Scouts of America Tuesday in a flag raising ceremony and the introduction of Arizona HCR Bill 2036.

The bill recognizes the Boy Scouts of America as a premier National Youth Program aimed at guiding young people to making good moral and ethical choices throughout their life, while also teaching them valuable skills.

Celebrating this occasion were members of Troop 993, including: Color Guard – Bradley Baymack, Dolton Allen, Raul Rivera, Javier Rodriguez and Braiden Luth. Christopher Forbes led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ryan Hahn, Michael Handwerk, Tyler Manley, Daniel Anderson, Nathan Todd and Favor Allen attended as honorees. Assistant scoutmasters Sean Handwerk, Tara Allen, Don Smith and Terry Forbes, as well as parents were on hand to support their sons.

Grand Canyon Council is the largest, by area, Boy Scout Council in the U.S. Programs include Cub Scouts (ages 6-10), Boy Scouts (ages 11-18), Varsity (ages 14-15); Venturing (male and female ages 14-21); Learning For Life (coed, varies by region); Sea Scouts (varies by region); and Soccer & Scouts (varies by region).
