Car wash, raffle and food sales to benefit family struggling with medical bills

Friends and concerned citizens are sponsoring a car wash and raffle at AutoZone on Saturday to help the family of ailing Maricopa youngster Zachary Schumann keep up with mounting medical expenses.

Zachary has been fighting Wilms Tumor, a children’s cancer that attacks the kidneys, since he was 5 years old.

After three years of major surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and moderate hearing loss as a side effect of a medication, Zachary recently underwent surgery in Tucson, which showed his new tumors to be inoperable.

He is literally fighting for every minute of his life.

Zachary’s friend, Chance Burback, said he wants to help Zack’s mom and dad with the financial end of things.

Jake Cannon, who met Zachary through Chance, said, “I feel bad that my friend is sick.”

Jake and his mom, Lisa Cannon, have been selling cancer awareness bracelets to raise money for the Schumann family.

“It helps them pay their medical bills,” Jake said.
Friends are now also making the bracelets that originated with Zachary’s mom, Sara Schumann.

The fundraiser car wash and raffle at AutoZone will raise money to help pay for gas the family has needed to buy to travel to and from the Tucson hospital.

In addition, baked goods, hot dogs, soda, water, lemonade and ice pops will be available for purchase.

Mayor Anthony Smith will draw the winning raffle tickets at the event. A Wii system will be raffled off a week later as the grand prize.
