UPDATE Oct. 19, 4:26 p.m.: Construction crews will break ground Monday, according to Nick Robello, who confirmed they are still estimating a 2024 opening.

Carl’s Jr. is getting ready to make its Maricopa comeback.

First announced in late 2021, the fast-food chain plans to open a location on a vacant lot between Maricopa Animal Hospital and Rili B’s Taco Shop on North John Wayne Parkway.

New fences surround the lot, sporting signs for A.T. Meridan Construction LLC, which has a green light from the city to start moving dirt.

“Carls Jr. does have the required permits to begin building,” said city spokesperson Quinn Konold.

Earlier this year, a spokesperson for SimonCRE, the commercial developer based in Scottsdale, told InMaricopa construction would begin this year.

SimonCRE Content Marketing Manager Nick Robello also said he estimated a 2024 opening

The developer today could not immediately be reached for an update.

The restaurant will re-join the lineup of national fast-food chains on John Wayne Parkway which includes Taco Bell, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King and Sonic.

Carl’s Jr. previously operated a restaurant in Maricopa at the location of the current Wendy’s, on North John Wayne Parkway. That location shuttered in December 2018.
