Central Arizona College has been awarded a federal grant worth nearly $3 million aimed at increasing the retention rates of Hispanic and other unrepresented students.

The award comes from the Office of Postsecondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education.

The $2,894,780 Title V grant will be used to increase the retention rates of Hispanic and other unrepresented students through tailored assistance, resources and a series of programs.

The federal grant will fund 97% of the project, while the remaining 3% is supported by CAC funds.

The five-year grant will support various programs and initiatives, including revising education courses to address relevancy and coordinating curriculums to address students’ basic needs.

Financial literacy workshops and structured learning assistance will be provided to help students pass math courses and increase their likelihood of transferring to a four-year university.

Faculty members will also benefit from the grant, receiving professional development opportunities that foster greater student engagement, improved learning and enhanced student retention.

The grant will also assist faculty in applying Universal Design Principles to their courses and using technology to support equity and other improvements in learning.
