The Maricopa Redevelopment District Advisory board recently was awarded a $50,000 clean-up grant from the Gila River Indian Community.

“There are several things we are looking at using this money for, but most are aimed at cleaning up the area,” said Danielle Casey, Maricopa’s economic development manager.

Some options include renting heavy equipment to help residents remove unwanted debris or renting trash cans to host a community clean-up day.

“Because of the amount of money, we will be somewhat limited in what we can do,” Casey said. “We need to identify what will have the greatest impact on the area.”

The decision on what the funds are used for will be an open process, according to Casey, but she says citizens are welcome to come to the meetings and give their feedback.

The redevelopment advisory board is made up of seven voting members, who are all either residents or business owners in the redevelopment district.
