The city is accepting candidate applications to fill the Maricopa City Council seat vacated by Rich Vitiello.

All applications are due to the city clerk’s office no later than April 16.

The council on April 23 council will conduct a special session at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

During that meeting, each council member will vote for their respective top three candidates from the pool of applicants. The top vote recipients will then be publicly interviewed individually in City Council Chambers during the same meeting.

The council will then select and announce the successful candidate. 

The chosen candidate will be sworn in at the May 7 council meeting.

The successful candidate will serve out the remainder of the current term, which is Dec. 1, 2026. 

Vitiello resigned Monday 1 to run for Pinal County supervisor.
