Maricopa City Manager Kevin Evans has named the acting Public Safety director and the Development Services director for the city of Maricopa, a city official reported late Thursday.

Police Chief Patrick Melvin will assume the duties of acting Public Safety director. Both Assistant Fire Chief Wade Brannon and Assistant Police Chief Kirk Fitch will report to Melvin.

Brent Billinglsey , who oversees Transportation, has been named director of Development Services. This position will oversee planning, permitting, the building official, Public Works, Transportation and Engineering.

Both positions took effect at 4 p.m. today.

None of the officials involved in the changes were immediately available for comment.

Fire Division Chief Mark Boys, whose conversation was cut short due to an incoming call for assistance from Casa Grande, said the announcement was news to him.

“I was just in a meeting with the city manager and the planning people,” he said. “And I had no idea.”

More information will be posted on inmaricopa.com as it becomes available.

The changes appear to be tied to last week’s terminations of then-City Planning Director Amy Haberbosch and former Fire Chief William Kelleher. Both were let go as part of a reorganization initiative under Evans’ direction, City Spokeswoman Jennifer Grentz said.
