City offers Maricopa kids a chance to stay cool out of school

The city of Maricopa is offering children the opportunity to shake, rattle and roll during a five-day camp.

“This is going to be really fun,” said Maria Billingsley, camp director.

Kids, ages 5-18, will be transported to the Desert School Coyotes Ice Center for fun and games.

Children will have the opportunity to learn how to ice skate, play video games, see movies, do karate, construct a science project and more during the fall camp.

The cost of the camp is $150, which includes transportation to and from the ice center, all activities and lunch.

Children participating in the camp will need to be dropped off at city hall each day by 7:30 a.m. and can be picked up after 6 p.m.

There are still eight of the eleven spots available in the camp.

“We got a slow response to the idea so we only rented one bus, but, if we have a large amount of children we have to turn away, we will rent another bus next time,” Billingsley said.

The city will host their next camp during the schools’ Christmas break.
