City offers Passport Fair on Saturday

Traveling this summer? Whether you are going by land, sea or air, new regulations that go into effect on June 1 require U.S. citizens to have and present a passport book, passport card or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter this country from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

The City of Maricopa is hosting a Passport Fair Saturday, March 28, to accept passport applications and to provide passport book and card information to residents. The event is part of the Department of State’s national outreach program called Passport Day in the USA.

To apply for a passport or passport card, individuals need to provide proof of U.S. citizenship and a valid form of photo identification. You will also need two passport-sized photos of yourself, which can be taken at city hall for an additional fee. Please note that a passport card cannot be used for air travel, only for driving.

Fee information can be accessed at www.travel.state.gov or you can download the passport brochure (click here). Passport renewal forms are available at city hall and may be sent in by the applicant.

U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.

“We are happy to provide this opportunity for people who work during the week to be able to come in on a Saturday for passport information and application,” said City Clerk Vanessa Bueras.
