Coffee with Chief to focus on traffic issues

Saturday’s Coffee with the Chief will be at Honeycutt Coffee and focus on minor traffic violations and how they endanger drivers and pedestrians.

Maricopa Police Chief Steve Stahl said the discussion will focus on “common little things people do that they know might be a traffic violation, but do anyway.”

One example, he said, was following other cars too closely, which often results in the driver rear-ending another vehicle.

Bicycle and pedestrian traffic safety also will be discussed.

Stahl said this year the state has seen an unusually high number of pedestrian deaths.

He added the topic is especially timely because traffic will increase as snowbirds travel to their Maricopa homes.

The monthly sessions, which take place 8-9:30 a.m. the second Saturday of the month, is a chance for residents to chat with Stahl in a casual environment. Attendees select the topics to be discussed. Coffee with the Chief previously was held at the Maricopa Public Library.
