A donation car wash for Zachary Schumann held at Auto Zone this past weekend was a smashing success.

The event raised $5,740 in addition to a $950 refrigerator donated by Sun West Appliances to help store the host of medications needed to keep up with the 8-year-old cancer patient’s daily routine (see “Car wash, raffle and food sales to benefit family struggling with medical bills”).

“This event was great,” said Mary Intrieri, a long-time friend of the family.

Intrieri described the scene at the car wash this weekend as very busy.

“It was very heart warming to see the outpouring of support from the community. We had people who didn’t even know Zack come by and volunteer to wash cars,” Intrieri said.

Intrieri added, “To see people who don’t know Zack just drop off a $500 check makes me never want to leave the community.”

The volunteers were also well taken care of by local businesses.

“We had Bashas’ donate a sub for the volunteers and Brooklyn Boys brought out pizza for everyone,” Intrieri said.

The funds raised through the car wash will help Zack and his family pay the bills.

“With everything this family is going through, they do not need to worry about bills,” Intrieri said.

Donations to the Schumanns can be made at any Well Fargo bank.
