Dollars Deals closing its doors for good on Friday

The city of Maricopa could soon be without a dollar store.

The owner of Dollar Deals, Tim Arnold, said he will be closing the doors of his Maricopa business Dec.12.

It is the second announcement of a dollar store in jeopardy in the community. The owner of Just a Buck, Erik Peterson, has decided to sell his dollar store and move to Houston, Texas.

Arnold said the reason for his closing shop is a drastic reduction in sales. “My sales are down 50 percent from last year,” Arnold said.

When it reached the point that the store was losing money, Arnold had to find a full-time job in Chandler.

“I am going to be working for AT&T,” he said.

While Arnold added that he doesn’t like the prospect of having to go back to working for someone else, it is what he must do.

“It sucks,” he said.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from now until the store closes, Arnold plans to offer store customers a 10 percent discount on merchandise.

Arnold said he might head out to the swap meet on the weekends with whatever inventory he has left over.
