A highly intoxicated Maricopa man was arrested and jailed after he shot off a gun, destroying a street sign in the early morning hours, police said.

Marcos Castro, 28, he was prohibited by law to possess the weapon, police said, and faces charges of DUI with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit. He also faces charges of misconduct with a weapon and possessing liquor in a vehicle, Maricopa police stated in a probable cause report.

Police report that officers responded Sunday to residents’ reports of shots fired around West Honeycutt and North Murphy roads in The Trails community.

Police said they arrived on the scene at about 5:21 a.m. to find Castro “stumbling, losing balance and reacting slowly.”

He was handcuffed and police said they discovered three bottles of alcohol in the vehicle that were still cold to the touch.

A Barretta 92FS 9mm handgun was found under the driver’s seat.

Police said the passenger, later identified as Ramon Vidales-Felix, told them Castro had been drinking during the time he fired the handgun about three times.

Police report they found a magazine loaded with 9mm bullets in Castro’s front pocket and a number of empty shell casings in the car. About 25 bullets holes were found in a nearby yellow directional sign and two bullet casing were found on the ground. Paint was found on the ground near the sign, police said.

  1. There were 25 holes in that sign?! Did the dude mean he emptied the gun and reloaded three times when he said he “fired the handgun about three times”? Although incredibly stupid, it is nonetheless impressive that his aim was still that good while being so drunk…
