Monday March 4, 2019 “The National Monument Next Door”

Wayne, Manager to the Sonoran Desert National Monument, will introduce us to the monument
just west of Maricopa, which is the closest unit of the National Monument system to our city. It
is truly a hidden gem of Arizona’s public parks. Historically this part of the Sonoran Desert is
known for the many pioneer trails located through the park. These trails include the De Anza,
Mormon Battalion, Gold Rush, and Butterfield Stage Line trails. He is also the Assistant Field
Manager of the Lower Sonoran Field Office at Bureau of Land Management located in Phoenix,
Arizona. He is a graduate of Utah State University.
