Maricopa High School tennis standout Cooper Krigbaum qualified for the AIA State Tennis Singles Championship tomorrow morning in Scottsdale.

“As far as I know and have been able to research, he is the first Maricopa boy to qualify for the state championships,” said MHS Athletic Director Craig Moody. “He’s worked so hard, so he’s such a deserving kid.”

During the regular season, Krigbaum went 9-6 and 3-0 in his section, the Yuma division.

“I swept the competition and won all three,” Krigbaum said.

He said he was excited to have the championship opportunity.

“I think it’s going to be a good experience just to go there, and just being a senior,” Krigbaum said.

He’ll compete against a player from Mountain View High School in Mesa at 9 a.m. in Scottsdale Ranch Park.

“Cooper’s a great kid,” Moody said, adding the athletics department was celebrating this morning. “He’s a great student and an all-around student athlete.”
