Inside the Creative Mind” 2024 is a fascinating and free series of Friday evening lectures presented jointly by Maricopa ARTS Council and the Library and Cultural Center. Each session is an in-person encounte\r with a superb, skilled Arts professional – a master in his/her own field and a highly-regarded and effective presenter., The 11th edition of this popular series continues in February and March with two lectures featuring The Visual Arts on February t 23rdand March 1sr with presentations by two exceptional Visual Artists whose creative impulses and artistry are expressed through more than one channel — inventive quilter Crystal Dennis, and prize-winning pastel master and ceramicist Russell Frank.

March 1, 2024: Pastel Master & Inventive Ceramicist RUSSELL FRANK. When he was 7 he won a national coloring contest with the grand prize of an all expense paid trip to Disneyland. His talent has been apparent and acknowledged since early childhood. Born in Bakersfield, California, he attended Bakersfield College and Cal State Northridge, majoring in Art, Ceramics and Woodworking. In 1968 he began his unique style of dry-pastel drawings centered on landscape, wildlife and waterfowl depictions.. In 1973 he started his own hand thrown pottery business featuring either glazed, Raku, Ferric Chloride or Obvera fired works. His creative output also includes many pieces of fine furniture and cabinets. The quality of his work is well recognized, and led to leadership posts in the Pastel Society of the West Coast since 2010. – Visit on Facebook: Russell Frank Pastels and Pots. Each up-close-and personal session will demonstrate the skill set and approaches this Artist employs – including examples of current works, sketches, documents, performances, and finished pieces – to showcase the behind-thescene process to go from inspiration to finished piece – to answer the puzzle “What makes the magic work?”. // A Qand-A session follows every presentation, and light refreshments will be served.
