Expansion to add 353 spaces at 40th and Pecos park-and-ride

Expansion of the Ahwatukee park-and-ride lot at 40th Street and Pecos Road may be welcome news for those Maricopans who use the lot as an access to transit services destined for downtown Phoenix.

The current lot, the most used park-and-ride facility in the Metro area, has 562 parking spaces.  However, on most days there is an overflow of cars, causing drivers to seek parking along the curbing before they miss their transit ride.

Construction of an additional 353 spaces will begin immediately and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Land for the expansion is located west of the present lot and is city-owned.

Funding, a total of approximately $3 million, comes from federal stimulus monies.
