The Maricopa Fire Department and Maricopa Rotary Club are hosting a water-safety barbecue 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Maricopa Rotary Club Pool, 44200 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway

Food and refreshments will be provided and the pool will be open.

Presentations will include the “ABC’s of water safety” and other safety practices to implement around water.

Earlier this month, Mayor Christian Price joined mayors throughout the state in proclaiming August Drowning Impact Awareness Month.

Prior to that point, six children died in water-related incidents in the state. During the past three weeks two Valley children drowned.

Members of the Maricopa Fire Department, according to a press release, feel it necessary to exhaust every possible effort to prevent such deaths.

“That is why we invite every man, woman and child in Maricopa to attend an event that will provide vital information in regards to water and life safety,” the release stated.
