Five-Year Transportation Plan approved by Supervisors

On Aug. 1 the Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved the Five-Year Transportation Plan for the Half-Cent Transportation Excise Tax (FY 2007-2012).

The Half-Cent Transportation Excise Tax was re-approved by the voters in November 2005, which will continue the tax from 2006 through 2026. The Transportation Excise Tax collected within Pinal County is distributed to the incorporated communities and the County based on population.

Within Pinal County the tax is further distributed within the three Supervisor Districts. Each District receives an average of $1,300,000 annually for transportation projects. The Board of Supervisors appoints citizens within their district to serve on Technical Advisory Committees.

Starting in March of each year, these committees take a comprehensive tour of their representative district to understand the transportation needs in their area. They also meet six times at various locations throughout Pinal County to solicit public input on transportation projects. In July, the committees presented their recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for the Five-Year Transportation Plan.

The Five-Year Transportation Plan for the Half-Cent Transportation Excise Tax for Fiscal Years 2007-2012 is available to the public on the Pinal County Public Works Department Web site; for more information call (520) 866-6411.
