A prolonged excessive heat warning in Maricopa is literally setting the city on fire.

A lawnmower burst into flames on the side of a residential road this morning, according to a public safety official.

Around 10:30 a.m., Maricopa emergency services responded to reports of a roadside fire in the Rancho El Dorado neighborhood, according to city spokesperson Monica Williams.

A landscaping company’s ride-on lawnmower combusted on Rancho El Dorado Parkway. The Maricopa Fire Department has yet to determine the cause.

No one was injured in the fire.

The road was closed as a precaution and the fire was put out quickly, according to Williams.
