Authorities in Texas have arrested one of the outstanding suspects in the “hole-in-the-wall” burglary case, Maricopa Public Safety Director Patrick Melvin said Tuesday afternoon.

Melvin said he didn’t have many details on the arrest of Shadryck Brown, 19, only that he was apprehended in Angleton, Texas, by the local police department and the U.S. Marshals Service. Melvin added the Maricopa Police Department and the Pinal County Attorney’s Office were working on an extradition to bring Brown back to Arizona.

Brown, a Maricopa resident, was wanted on suspicion of participating in a string of six break-ins in Maricopa in which a hole was pounded through the exterior wall of a house. Three other individuals, Isaac C. Solis, Peter V. Rizzo and Alvin Bustamante, were arrested three weeks ago (see related story) and police said they have confessed to their involvement in the incidents, which all occurred in a six-week time span in the Maricopa Meadows and Alterra communities.

According to a news release from the first arrests in the case, police believe Brown pointed a handgun at a homeowner during a burglary attempt on Feb. 27 in Alterra.

Melvin said the police department was pleased Brown was in custody and that his arrest helped bring another piece of closure to the case, which had left residents in the affected neighborhoods on edge for weeks.

“The main thing is when we started taking the (suspects) into custody, the burglaries immediately stopped,” he said. “… All the officers involved were happy that the residents now had a sense of calm.”

Police are still seeking Arnold M. Valenzuela-Lozano Jr., 19, of Guadalupe, in connection with the burglaries.
