Friends of the Library host benefit book sale

The Friends of The Maricopa Community Library will hold a semi-annual used book sale from 8 a.m. to noon March 15 in the Multi-Purpose Room of Santa Rosa Elementary School at 2100 N. Santa Rosa Drive.

The sale offers patrons a wide variety of genres at a discount including romance, science fiction, children’s, biographies, cook books and more. The group provides paper grocery bags that patrons can fill with as many books as they would like for $5. Many genres sell out quickly so patrons are encouraged to arrive early. Some items are priced individually, such as children’s books at 25 cents and multimedia items starting at 50 cents including videos, DVDs and CDs.

“Our $5-per-sack sales have become very popular, and most of our customers leave with more than one bag,” Friends Chairwoman Marisa McDonald said.”Our goal is to sell as many books as possible and it’s such a joy to watch repeat customers bring their children and friends to share in the fun.”

Proceeds from the sale benefit the library and its programs and also help the library get some of its older books out of storage.

Children’s used books are always in demand and any donations are greatly appreciated, event sponsors said. The Friends of the Maricopa Community Library will accept donations of all books and/or audiovisual materials from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 14 at the school.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to purchase “Reflections of a Desert Town” vol. II, Maricopa’s own history book, for $25 each and “Home Cookin’ From Maricopa, Arizona,” a collection of recipes by local residents published by the group and sold for $10 each.
