Friends of the Library set to preserve Maricopa’s heritage and memorabilia

Maricopa has a print account of its history; the next step is to preserve historic memorabilia and artifacts from the city’s past.

The history of Maricopa, as told by former resident and teacher Patricia Brock, is now available to all residents. “Reflections on a Desert Town, Edition II” was republished through the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Library.

Available at the Maricopa Community Library, the new Chamber of Commerce office next to the post office and at Secondhand Pages on Honeycutt Rd., the 360-page hardbound “coffee table” edition will also be available at Founders Day on Oct. 13. Brock will do a book signing during that event.

However, the preservation of Maricopa’s historic past does not end with its history in print. A committee made up of Friends of the Library and interested residents are currently in the process of documenting memorabilia for the Maricopa History Room, which will be part of the city’s planned new library. The group is also raising funds for the creation of this room and the preservation of its contents.

A Benefactors of Maricopa’s Heritage plaque will list the names of Maricopa individuals, families and businesses that helped create the library room devoted to the city’s heritage.
For those who have not yet donated to this project, there is still time.

“We are one united family, and it will be through our dedication and hard work that our children will be able to one day visit this Maricopa History Room and learn about their heritage,” said Brock.
