Friends of the Library undertake community cookbook project

So many great cooks! So many delicious recipes! Why not get those cooks to submit their recipes, then combine them into a deluxe, hardcover three-ring binder cookbook? The Friends of the Library in Maricopa are doing just that.

The Friends are a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to the promotion of community cultural events and the support of Maricopa’s library. Profits from this cookbook project, chaired by Kathy Debevec with committee members Lisa Baker, Peggy Bemis, FloAnn Ghigliazza and Roberta Cianciosi, will go toward contributing needed items for Maricopa’s new library, scheduled to open within the next two years.

“I participated in a cookbook project at my former church, and I knew, that though it required lots of work, the end product was great and the profits rewarding,” explained Debevec. “I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to rally our whole community in a project that would better acquaint neighbors through recipe sharing while creating awareness of our library and its programs.”

Cookbook chairperson Kathy Debevec hopes to get the entire community involved in this project.

The Maricopa Community Cookbook will be filled with recipes from the best cooks in the community. The plan is to gather 350 – 500 recipes and publish them, along with the name of the person submitting the recipe. The books will be available by the first week of October at the nominal cost of $15.

However, in order to make the project a success, the Friends need your recipes! Please submit three or four of you or your friends’ favorite recipes no later than Friday, April 14. One or more of them will be selected for the book. Recipe forms are available at City Hall, the library, Curves, Province, or one can be downloaded here. Return the completed recipes to Kathy Debevec, 20507 N. Wishing Well Lane, Maricopa, AZ 85239, or email them to [email protected]. If you would like to reserve copies of the cookbook, please note the number of copies you wish to order, your name and phone number.

Ads are also being sold to help defray publication costs. Patron ads are two lines for $15. Business ads, which would provide a permanent reminder of your product or service in each book, sell for $30 (one quarter page), $40 (one third page), $60 (one half page) or a full-page ad for $100. Ad copy, which can include logos or some photos, is also due by April 14.
