Get involved, learn about local government

Want to get involved in the community? Wonder how to begin? The city of Maricopa offers a unique way for citizens to become informed and get involved—the Maricopa Citizens Academy.

The academy is a six-week course covering topics in all city departments. Climb aboard a fire truck, find out how the city budget process works, what economic development strategies are underway and how the library is working to connect with readers of all ages.

The Leadership Academy is held twice a year. This spring session will represent the fifth one offered by the City. “Truly an eye opening experience; I have gained a better understanding of how the city operates, and the work that goes into its success,” said Brenda Campbell, a graduate of the third Leadership Academy session in 2009.

Registration is now open online and will close on March 12 or when capacity has been reached. The first of six sessions will begin on March 25. There are 15 available slots, and this will be a first come, first served opportunity.

Register online or contact 520-568-9098, ext. 773, for more information.
