Gov. Jan Brewer stopped in to the Ak-Chin UltraStar Multi-tainment Center Friday for a surprise visit and tour.

She was impressed.

“It’s absolutely spectacular and fabulous,” Brewer said. “Until you see it, you can’t really visualize what it’s all about.”

She said it was a great asset for the entire region, calling it a “gem in the desert.”

Brewer said she was flying East for the Republican National Convention in August when Armand Milazzo III, a former Maricopa resident who previously called the Ak-Chin to suggest a movie theater, fell into conversation with Brewer’s son, Michael.

Milazzo began telling the governor and her son about the multi-tainment center.

“He had a captive audience on the plane,” Brewer said.

The governor decided she just had to see it for herself, and, having some time, decided to stop in Friday.

“The whole atmosphere, it makes me feel good,” she said. “And it’s laid out so there’s always something to do, but it’s not crazy.”

She said although she hadn’t tried it yet, she was impressed with the laser-tag facility, imagining laser tag as “a more dramatic hide-and-seek.”

“I’ll definitely be back,” Brewer said.

The UltraStar Multi-tainment Center opened in November with a bowling alley, several restaurants, laser-tag arena, arcade and 12 movie theaters.
